How to delete your account in Splitnik, the trip-splitting app by Ilya Voloshin, and the data that goes with it. You only have a Splitnik account if you've shared a trip online or joined one: you signed in with Apple on an iPhone, or with Google on an Android phone. Trips you keep to yourself have no account; they live only on your phone, and deleting them or the app removes them.
In the app
Open Splitnik, go to Settings → Delete Account, and sign in once more to confirm it's you: with Apple on an iPhone, with Google on Android. Your account is deleted straight away.
Without the app
Email splitnik@ilyav.net with the subject "Delete my Splitnik account", from the email address of the Google Account or Apple Account you signed in with. If you write from another address, say which account it is.
Splitnik doesn't keep your email address, so to help me find your account, include the name the other members of your shared trips see, and the name or sharing code of a trip you're in. I may write back to check the request is yours. Your account is deleted within 30 days, and I'll tell you when it's done.
What's deleted
- Your account: the identifier of your Apple or Google Account in Splitnik, your name and your sign-in sessions. For an Apple account, the link to your Apple Account is ended with Apple too.
- Your membership in every shared trip. A trip you started passes to the member who has been in it longest; if nobody else is in it, it's deleted from the server with its photos and its sharing code.
- Your claim on a person: in each trip, the person you said you were is no longer linked to you, so someone else can pick them.
- Push tokens for your phones, so they get no more notifications about shared trips.
- Purchase records: the record of Splitnik Premium on your account (the App Store transaction id, or the hash of the Google Play purchase token). Your purchase itself stays with your Apple or Google Account, and keeps unlocking Premium in the app on your phone.
What may remain
- Trip data other members still share. A shared trip that still has members keeps what's in it, including the expenses, transfers, photos and details you added, and the person you were, as a name on the trip: it's the group's book. Ask a member to change or remove your details, or write to me.
- Backups: the server's nightly backups are kept for up to 14 days, then deleted.
- Server logs (time, address, path and result of requests) for a short time.
- A refunded purchase's id (or hash), if you had one refunded, with nothing else about you, so it can't unlock Premium again.
- Copies on phones. Every member's phone keeps its own copy of the trips they were in, and the trips on your phone stay there until you delete them. On Android, your phone's backup to your Google Account can hold a copy of your trips too, under your Google Account's settings.
Your Apple Account or Google Account itself isn't affected. With Google, you can also remove Splitnik from your Google Account's third-party connections.
